Mary died peacefully on August 6, 2017 at her home on the family ranch west of Novato.
She was born on June 3, 1926 to Josef and Marie Halter. Her parents emigrated from Switzerland in the early 1920's and settled in Penngrove, where Mary grew up on the family chicken ranch. She is a 1944 graduate of Petaluma High School. She attended business school in Santa Rosa and worked at the Petaluma Argus Courier. She met her husband, George A Grossi at a dance in Cotati...

Mary died peacefully on August 6, 2017 at her home on the family ranch west of Novato.
She was born on June 3, 1926 to Josef and Marie Halter. Her parents emigrated from Switzerland in the early 1920's and settled in Penngrove, where Mary grew up on the family chicken ranch. She is a 1944 graduate of Petaluma High School. She attended business school in Santa Rosa and worked at the Petaluma Argus Courier. She met her husband, George A Grossi at a dance in Cotati and they were married on December 28, 1946. They made their home on their Novato ranch. There they raised their three children and ran their dairy business together. Mary was a devoted wife and mother that valued her family above all else. She was a woman of deep faith and a member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church for over 70 years. She loved living on the ranch and enjoyed cooking, baking and tending to her garden. She also enjoyed bowling, golf, watching the San Francisco Giants, and traveling, with Switzerland being her favorite destination. She was an active member of North Bay Dairy Women for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband George and her siblings, Joe Halter, Rose Grossi, Emma Chance and grandaughter Jamie Ryan. She is survived by her children, George D (Annette) Grossi, Carol (Rich) Ryan and Shirley (Robin) Nosecchi. Mary is also survived by eight grandchildren and their spouses as well as thirteen great-grandchildren. She felt Blessed to have lived her life with family close by in a place that she loved.
Friends and family are invited to a funeral mass on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church at 1806 Novato Blvd. in Novato. There will be visitation from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Keaton's Redwood Chapel of Marin at 1801 Novato Blvd., Novato. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to your favorite charity.
