Robert Wilson Alten entered into God's care on March 29, 2015 in Hidden Valley Lake, California. Born June 27, 1940 in Greenbrae, California, Robert lived the first 62 years of his life in Marin County before moving to Lake County with his beloved wife Joan Hollywood Alten. He was a graduate of San Rafael High School (1958) and College of Marin (1960), and received a diploma in Advanced Instructor Training from The Ohio State University. Preceded in death by his parents Otis P. Alten and Loretta E. Alten, and brothers Eugene Alten and Carl Alten, Robert is survived by his wife Joan, his four children, Julie Thayer (Sterling), Kathy Boggs (Mike), Bob Alten (Shannon) and Michael Alten (Angela); two stepchildren, Arthur Pirelli and Lisa Vaca (Pat); and eight grandchildren, Ben Valdovinos, Nick Valdovinos, Alexis Valdovinos, Jennifer Boggs, Michelle Boggs, Cole Boggs, Bobby Alten, and Billy Alten. Also left to cherish his memories are his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loyal friends. A talented and gifted architectural designer, Robert developed a very successful career in the sheet metal industry, supervising projects throughout Marin and San Francisco Counties. He was a dynamic model of kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness. Robert reveled in making others happy and lived to make a positive difference in the lives of those he touched. His years of commitment to a variety of charities are living testimony to his generous spirit. He embraced life to the fullest, motorcycling, water skiing, boating, fishing and camping throughout his years. He was the famous "Harley Santa" of Marin County for 19 years, handing out candy canes from his hand-built sleigh. Nothing in Robert's life was more important to him than his family and friends. He adored his wife Joan, his children, and grandchildren, all of whom made him very happy and proud. He was warm and welcoming to friends and strangers alike, and always entertaining with his wry humor and irreverent wit. He embraced life, and faced its challenges with gusto. Robert, we have been touched by your laughter and joy, your humor and warmth, your caring spirit and kind soul. We will miss you dearly. May you rest in everlasting peace. Robert's Family would like to thank his many loyal and wonderful friends for their love, prayers, and support. Memorial donations may be made to UCSF Foundation / Medical Center, or a charity of the donor's choice. A Mass and service will be held for Robert W. Alten on Tuesday, April 7, 11:00 AM at Saint Vincent's Church, 1 Saint Vincent's Dr., San Rafael, CA.
